Being in your body is being at home in nature
If you have recetly attended any of my yoga classes, you have noticed the conversation I have been starting about the rhythms, pulsations, our bodies and using the practice as a way of reconnecting. Whatever your view-point is, it’s a beneficial shift to see it as a collaborative experience we have with our bodies. Our bodies are essentially our feedback system for what we choose to participate in daily, from our food choices, where we spend our time and what we put our focus on.
Through different stages in our yoga practice we direct our senses inward and explore what we begin to notice. At first we may just notice muscle fatigue from the yoga postures and the accompanying sensation of physical movement, but over time we may begin to notice specific patterns or behaviors that no longer suit our desired state physically or mentally. From this stage when we shift gears into this perspective of bodily collaboration we reflect on how our choices are affecting us and how we feel.
Today people expect or hope for their health to be achieved in a pill form, that magically the doctor or nutritionist will fix us with a special concoction to make everything better or that just talking to the psychiatrist will alleviate the stress and the changes will occur, but this approach doesn’t address and give practical strategies for creating new and lasting lifestyle and behavior changes. The modern medical approach has essentially been zooming in on the what is happening and finding a way to alleviate the symptom or discomfort, this approach does have its place but it typically doesn’t address the reason such symptoms are arising or offer a strategy to change.
Where in your life is the over indulging in a substance or action costing you and how much? Maybe it’s not committing to saving a said amount for a much-needed vacation or retreat. Maybe the irresponsible spending is building frustration in your partner and an emotional volcano is building up pressure to erupt at any moment.
Over time, how much are you spending on the extra stress induced food cravings, alcohol, shopping for another pair of shoes or pants that you know you don’t need. How much money is this costing you per year along with how much is this taxing your energy reserves and mental capacity? What’s the point and why are we habitually drawn to do these things when triggered in a stressful situation or overrun with overwhelm.
Zooming out to the larger perspective is one of the practices for entering the collaborative model and through relating to this idea of rhythms and cycles we can clearly see where there are areas of strength, integrity and imbalances. It’s through adopting this perspective of the bigger picture and entering collaboration, when attuned to the rhythms of the day that we take the approach of connectivity. From the circadian cycles to the seasonal rhythms we have the waves of different qualities we can ride attuning us creating more of a balanced way of living and experiencing life.
Understanding how much money the choices being made are costing financially is a huge eye opener, investing in yourself and on your own journey to feeling awesome is in my opinion the best way to create an enjoyable life.
Because it’s through making decisions ahead of time while willpower and motivation are high that highlights the choices which are in alignment with what you are needing and desiring to change.
This is the official announcement of my pilot program I have been working on over the past nine months while striving to become a Certified Yoga Health Coach.
This is the first hence the name pilot program and its based on my own experience of becoming more aligned with the natural rhythms of the planet we live on.
